James Edward Summers, 53 of Springfield, died Friday February 3, 2012 at North Crest Medical Center. Born April 15, 1958 in Cook Co., IL to Ruby Froege Summers and the late Douglas Lee Summers, he was a veteran of the United States Army and loved best being a truck driver. James also loved music and movies. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am on Wednesday February 8, 2012 in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Ralph officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Robert Summers, Carl Summers, Josh Summers, Brian Phelps, Wayne Wilson and Terry Hunter serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 pm and again on Wednesday until the hour of service. Mr. Summers is survived by his mother, Ruby Summers of Milford, IL, sons, Michael Summers of Champaign, IL, Brian Phelps of Springfield, daughters, Jamie (Jeff) Cook of Bondville, IL, Bonnie Phelps (Robert Moore) of Springfield, Samantha Kissack of IL, step-son, Robert Brandenburg of IL, seven grandchildren, brothers, Robert (Shelia) Summers of Gilman, IL, Carl (Myrna) Summers of Ottawa, IL, several nephews and nieces, cousin, Janie (Wayne) Wilson of Bethpage, close friend, Terry Hunter of Springfield, former wife and special friend, Kathrine Summers of Springfield. The family request that memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. All donations may be sent care of the Robertson County Funeral Home.
